AR.IO: From Product to Protocol
Creative direction for an ETHDenver launch, coordinating token debut, brand evolution, and platform release.
TL;DR
After years under construction, ETHDenver was the night the lights went on. AR.IO stepped out as an open protocol with a public token, not just a product. The brand evolved alongside the platform, shifting the message from "run a gateway" to the first permanent cloud network. I led the creative direction from narrative and identity to the things you could touch: headline sponsorship, a collaboration with AO, a reactive LED floor, a four-panel motion wall for ecosystem partners, full conference merch and events, plus the airdrop claim site and staking apps, and on-site experiences that complemented the campaign and turned attention into action. The result was a real brand transformation told as one integrated story across product, event, and social that moved behavior in the room.
Role
Hands-on Creative Director partnering with AO's Creative Director and Community Labs' CMO and CPO. I owned narrative, identity, motion, installation design, screen content, the merch system, and product direction for the claim portal and staking app. Day-to-day with product and engineering, and tightly coordinated with ETHDenver on placements, tech constraints, and flow.
Brief
Evolve AR.IO from interesting project to open protocol with a token. Make it tangible and useful on site. Give people a line they'll remember and a flow they can complete in minutes: learn the protocol, claim, stake, participate.
Concept
When the Lights Go On. Make the network real. Stand on it with the LED floor. See it breathe on the motion wall. Wear it on badges and tees. Use it with a clean claim-to-stake path. A simple ladder guides everything: curiosity → claim → stake → contribution.
Experience & Channels
- ETHDenver sponsorship and AO collaboration. Shared visual grammar and programmed beats so AO and AR.IO lived in the same universe.
- LED floor installation. A living network map with pulsing nodes and routed paths. Tight loops for legibility in a crowded hall.
- Four-panel animated wall. Modular segments highlighting DeFi, marketplaces, community infra, and builders. A partner spotlight system that scales.
- Airdrop and claim portal. Fast eligibility checks, trustworthy states, post-claim education that points directly to staking.
- Staking app. Outcome-first flows with clear guardrails and plain-English explanations so people feel confident.
- Merch and on-site system. Badges, tees, hoodies, banners, and minimalist wayfinding. Cohesive, photographable, reusable.
- Social and content. Motion cut-downs for teasers, live clips, and recaps. Partner beats timed to talks and meetups.
Product × Brand (closing the loop)
The booth was a funnel. Screen states, QR placements, and staff scripts mirrored the exact product states in the claim and staking journeys. Release trains matched showtime. We QA'd each path so every impression had a clean next step and a satisfying "done."
Outcome
A cohesive launch that introduced AR.IO as a protocol you can see and use. The floor and wall pulled steady traffic. The claim-to-stake path converted on site. Partners felt seen on the motion system. We left with a reusable brand and motion kit for future events and integrations.
Collaboration
One team across companies. Daily with AO on shared assets and motion rules. Shoulder to shoulder with Community Labs on narrative, partner sequence, and press. In lockstep with ETHDenver on placements, power, and screens. Creative, marketing, product, and engineering on a single calendar.
